This is the front of Aliʻiolani Hale, the Hawaii Supreme Court Building, where he holds court (heh heh) over Oahu. A little history: a statue was commissioned in the 1870s to be designed (built? statued?) by Thomas Gould, an American sculptor. The completed statue subsequently sunk off the Falkland islands along with the ship carrying it to Hawai'i. A second statue was commissioned; this is the one here.
A few weeks after the arrival of the second statue, the first one arrived in Hawai'i, having been found in a junkyard in the Falklands. The original statue is now at Kamehameha's birthplace on Hawai'i.
You may have seen sunset pictures from the islands, but sunrises are a bit less common. This is the sunrise over Waikiki viewed from our hotel room.
Shot this later in the day in 'downtown' Waikiki. Cute, huh?
If you're not up for a Haute dog, how about this? This was on the menu at CJ's Deli, right near the Hilton resort.
Sumo Chili Burger
TWO (it says) 1/2 pound Black Angus hamburger patties, open faces on our famous potato bun, smothered with homemade chili, cheddar cheese, and chopped white onions, served with french fries. $18.95.
Now, Yr Fthrl Blggr loves a good burger as much as anyone, but this is just gross.
