Cooking Hoo Roo Rook, The Amazing Wonderful Korean Noodle Soup

So I got this package in the mail from Amazon.

I wonder what it can be?

Whoo hoo!  It's a 24 pack of Hoo Roo Rook soup.

I really dig this stuff, and for some reason, I haven't been able to find it at the local Asian supermarkets.  So I wound up ordering a small case of it from Amazon.com.

If you haven't had Hoo Roo Rook, you're missing out.  It's a wonderful Korean noodle soup made by the Nong Shim company.  Unlike other ramen (aka ramyun), the noodles are not fried.  It's lower in fat, and the noodles are much better in my opinion.

And the best part is how easy it is to make.

You can make Hoo Roo Rook straight from the package, or add your own touches.  I usually put a bit of red pepper paste and some vegetables in mine.  Use whatever you like or have on hand - I put some carrots and celery in this batch.

The red pepper paste is a bit of a mystery to me.  I get mine locally at H Mart, where they have a couple of shelves full.  Since most all of the labels are in Korean, I take a wild guess at what might be good.  (I don't read Korean, or speak it for that matter).  Buying it this way means you could wind up with something hot, something milder, something sweeter...you name it.  This batch is not too hot.

Start by bringing 500ml (about 2 cups) of water to a boil.

I put some of the red pepper paste in the water at the beginning.  Maybe a half teaspoon or so.
While the water is coming to a boil, open the package.  There are noodles, seasoning flakes, soup base and soup paste.

When the water is boiling, put in your seasoning flakes and soup base.  And add the noodles.  The noodles are exquisite!

Toss in your vegetables if you are adding any.  You could also add some pieces of chicken, shimp, what-have-you as well.
Cook for 3 minutes.  Have your penguin hold the soup paste for the time being.

At the end of the 3 minutes, stir in the soup paste.

Pour into a bowl and enjoy.  This stuff really rocks.  If you add enough 'extras' it makes a pretty hearty meal.

I just found out that the genius who invented instant noodles was a gentleman named Momofuku Ando.  He said, "Peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat."
